php0YiO6sAMWe visit another major audio House of Worship installation in the US this year by Electro Acoustics who have used K-array once again to deliver optimum results for a challenging brief. St Mary’s Windthorst Church in Texas is a German community with a historical and worshipful sanctuary who approached President Chris Jordan from Electro Acoustics to help them develop a new system and understand their audio issues.

“I was immediately impressed with the beauty of the room and knew the solution would require discrete speakers to not distract for the worshipfulness of the church.” described Chris Jordan who is very familiar with the challenges of an installation such as this. The biggest challenges when it comes to church installations is always the sound reflections and awkward coverage issues but equally it is always difficult to convince the clients that modern audio systems can be extremely effective within environments such as this. Due to their slim size and fine performance K-array have always been presented as an ideal solution to solve many of the room acoustic issues. “The room acoustics were very live” Chris Jordan continues with data reading of 2.5 RT-60, this meant they required speakers with substantial control over the sound.

The Electro Acoustics engineering team lead by Clay Huston made the decision to use a pair of KP102 Speakers for each side of the proscenium arch with a corner mounted KMT18P subwoofer. This location provided great coverage to all seats not he main floor and after being custom painted all but dispersed into the building architecture.
A separate pair of K-Array KP-52 and KMT-18P subwoofers were used in the Antiphonal Choir located opposite the platform.  Having two sources of sound maintains directional realism which can elevate any event especially within any House of Worship building.  K-Array KK-52 speakers are used in the choir as monitors and also as fill from the main speaker system.  K-Array Tornado speakers are used in the cry room and upper balcony side-fill because of their small discrete size but powerful performance. The installation team, led by Electro Acoustics’ project Lead Kasey Cummings, did an exceptional job on the installation.  Chris Jordan concluded “The church was delighted not only with the huge difference in speech clarity but also in the care in which the system was installed.”
